The Detroit story
Jones, known as "Zeke", was born in Ypsilanti, a city just outside Ann Arbor in the wider southeastern Michigan region, and grew up wrestling in the area, becoming citywide junior high champion in Ann Arbor and compiling a 111–6 high school record at Huron High School, where he was Michigan state runner-up in 1984 and state champion in 1985. He went on to win a world championship in 1991 and an Olympic silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Games. After his competitive career he became the freestyle head coach for USA Wrestling, guiding the national program, and later took over as head coach at Arizona State University.
