The Detroit story
Detroit drafted Kopecký in 2000 and developed him through junior hockey and four seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings' AHL affiliate, before he debuted in the NHL in 2006. He became a regular contributor on Detroit's fourth line and, on June 4, 2008, won the Stanley Cup as the Red Wings beat Pittsburgh in six games. The next season he helped Detroit reach the Final again, this time losing to Pittsburgh in seven games. Kopecký left for Chicago as a free agent in 2009 and won a second Stanley Cup there in 2010, becoming one of relatively few players to win the Cup with two different teams in consecutive appearances.
