Detroit acquired Thon Maker in a three-team trade in February 2019, midway through his fourth NBA season. Playing as a stretch big man, he had his signature Pistons moment on February 22, 2019, sinking a tiebreaking three-pointer with 16.7 seconds left to beat the Atlanta Hawks 125–122. He remained with Detroit through the pandemic-shortened 2019–20 season, but the Pistons chose not to extend him a qualifying offer that November, and Maker moved on in free agency.
