The Detroit story
Detroit drafted Johnson eighth overall in 2015 after one season at Arizona, hoping his size and defensive versatility would make him a building block. He debuted that October with seven points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench, and spent four seasons with the Pistons, mostly as a role player defending opposing wings. His time in Detroit included a one-game suspension in 2016 for a rules violation. In February 2019 the Pistons traded him in a three-team deal to the New Orleans Pelicans, and he later played for several more NBA teams before continuing his career in Japan's B.League.
