The Detroit story
Johnson, already a longtime WNBA All-Star known as "Pee Wee," joined the Detroit Shock in March 2007 after stints in Columbia, Orlando, Connecticut, New York and Chicago. Playing more of a reserve role than she had earlier in her career, she was part of a Shock team that finished 24–10, first in the Eastern Conference, and advanced to the 2007 WNBA Finals before losing to the Phoenix Mercury in five games. It was her only season in Detroit; the Shock traded her to Houston the following spring.
