The Detroit story
Casada Sorrell was born and raised in the Regent Park neighborhood on Detroit's east side. He came up in the local scene of the mid-2010s, when Detroit rappers were developing a fast, offbeat, punchline-heavy style that spread through YouTube and social media. In March 2018 he released the video for “Bloxk Party” with fellow Detroit rapper Drego; its viral success, driven partly by his exuberant dancing, led to a deal with Asylum Records. A string of mixtapes kept him in the spotlight, and in 2020 “Whole Lotta Choppas” took off on TikTok, reaching No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning a remix with Nicki Minaj. His debut studio album Skuba Sada 2 entered the Billboard 200 the same year. Along with artists such as Tee Grizzley, 42 Dugg and Babyface Ray, he helped make Detroit one of the most-watched rap cities of the period.
