The Detroit story
Roxy Petrucci and her guitarist sister Maxine grew up in the Detroit area and first played in the all-female group Pantagruel. In 1981 they formed Madam X in Detroit, adding male musicians including singer John Grosjean and bassist Chris Doliber, before moving the band east and then to New York. Madam X's 1984 album We Reserve the Right, produced by Rick Derringer, made them a cult favorite, and for a time the band featured a young Sebastian Bach before he joined Skid Row. In 1987 Petrucci joined Vixen, whose self-titled 1988 album brought the top-30 hit “Edge of a Broken Heart” and made the band MTV regulars. She later revived Vixen with her sister, reunited Madam X in 1991 and again from 2013, and remains one of the best-known female drummers of 1980s hard rock.
