The Detroit story
Crim had anchored news in Louisville, Philadelphia, where he partnered with Jessica Savitch, and Chicago, and was considered for ABC's national anchor desk, before he came to Detroit in 1978 to anchor at WWJ-TV, soon renamed WDIV-TV. For 19 years he was one of the city's most trusted faces on Channel 4, retiring from the anchor chair in 1997. He stayed in the Detroit area, founding the marketing agency Mort Crim Communications, producing syndicated radio features such as One Moment Please and Second Thoughts, and writing books of inspirational essays. Detroit rock fans know his voice from the spoken introduction he recorded for the White Stripes' song Little Acorns on the 2003 album Elephant.
