The Detroit story
Michael Schur was born on October 29, 1975, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, but he grew up on the East Coast, in Connecticut, so his Michigan tie is his birthplace; he remains a fan of Michigan Wolverines football. After Harvard, where he was president of the Harvard Lampoon, he wrote for Saturday Night Live from 1998 to 2004, then became a writer and producer on the American version of The Office, where he also appeared as Dwight's cousin Mose Schrute. He went on to co-create Parks and Recreation with Greg Daniels and Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Dan Goor, and created the philosophical afterlife comedy The Good Place and Netflix's A Man on the Inside. His warm, idealistic ensemble comedies defined a generation of network sitcoms.
