The Detroit story
Martin Milner was born in Detroit, the son of Mildred Martin, a dancer on the Paramount theater circuit, and Sam Gordon Milner, who worked in construction and later as a film distributor. The family left Detroit while he was a small child, moved often and had settled in Seattle by the time he was nine; they later moved to Los Angeles, where he began acting as a teenager. He made his film debut in Life with Father (1947) and appeared in movies such as Sweet Smell of Success before television made him a household name. As Tod Stiles he crisscrossed America in a Corvette in Route 66 (1960–1964), and as the steady Officer Pete Malloy he anchored the Los Angeles police series Adam-12 (1968–1975). His Detroit connection is his birth.
