The Detroit story
Kennard came to Detroit as a first-round pick out of Duke in 2017 and spent his first three NBA seasons with the Pistons, developing into one of the league's most precise three-point shooters. Injuries slowed his path, including a knee strain that cost him the 2018 Summer League and bilateral knee tendinitis that cut his first season as a full-time starter short in 2019–20, a year also disrupted by the COVID-19 shutdown. In November 2020 the Pistons traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a three-team deal that brought back the draft rights to Saddiq Bey. Kennard went on to become one of the most accurate three-point shooters in NBA history by percentage, a skill first built in Detroit.
