The Detroit story
Larry Joe Campbell grew up in northern Michigan, graduating from Pine River Area Schools and then Central Michigan University with a theater degree. He came to Detroit for a Master of Arts in theater at Wayne State University and stayed to become part of the city's improv scene, gaining his early professional experience on The Second City's Detroit and Novi stages alongside Keegan-Michael Key and others. In 2001 he was cast as Andy, Cheryl's affable brother and Jim's sidekick, on ABC's According to Jim, which ran for eight seasons. With Key, Marc Evan Jackson, Margaret Edwartowski and Beth Hagenlocker he co-founded the Detroit Creativity Project, which brings improvisation classes into Detroit schools to help students build confidence and communication skills. He has since worked steadily in television and film, including The Hangover and many guest roles.
