The Detroit story
Crawford was born in Detroit in 1988 and attended the city's Communication and Media Arts High School before finishing his prep career at a Virginia military academy. He went on to play college basketball at Indiana and Xavier, and was drafted into the NBA in 2010, spending parts of six seasons with teams including the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors, followed by stints overseas including China's Xinjiang Flying Tigers. His brother Joe Crawford also played in the NBA. Though his professional career never brought him back to a Detroit franchise, his roots in the city's public school system remain part of his story.
