The Detroit story
By 2010 Damon had already won championships with Boston in 2004 and the Yankees in 2009 when he signed a one-year deal with Detroit. On July 6 he delivered a signature Comerica Park moment, recording his 2,500th career hit and then hitting a walk-off home run in the same game to beat the Orioles 7–5. Though his Tigers tenure lasted only the one season, it capped a long career built on speed, bat control and a shaggy, familiar presence in ballparks across the league.
