The Detroit story
Massey was born and raised in Detroit and attended the city's Mackenzie High School before starting his college career at Oxnard Community College in California, then transferring to Kansas State University. He never played in the NBA, instead building a long professional career abroad, in leagues across Europe, Russia, Lebanon and Argentina, and he later became a naturalized citizen of North Macedonia, representing the country internationally. His basketball roots, though, trace back to Detroit's west side, where his height and early promise were first noticed.
