The Detroit story
Grant signed with Detroit in a 2020 sign-and-trade deal after stints with Philadelphia, Oklahoma City and Denver, where he had mostly been a defensive role player. With the Pistons rebuilding around young talent, he was given a far larger offensive role and responded by becoming one of the league's most improved scorers, regularly posting career-high point totals. His two seasons in Detroit came during a difficult stretch for the franchise, but they established him as a legitimate NBA scoring threat, a reputation he carried into his next stop in Portland.
