Goff arrived in Detroit in March 2021 in a blockbuster trade that sent former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, along with draft picks, and the move was widely seen as a fresh start for a passer whose production had declined in Los Angeles. After two rebuilding seasons, Goff and the Lions broke through in 2023, ending Detroit's playoff-win drought that stretched back to 1991 with a wild-card victory over the Rams, his former team, before advancing all the way to the NFC Championship Game. In 2023 he also led Detroit to its first division title since 1993, and in 2024 the Lions repeated as division champions, their first back-to-back titles since 1954, with Goff earning Pro Bowl honors in both seasons. His steady, accurate passing became the foundation of the most successful era of Lions football in decades, played out at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.
