The Detroit story
James Wolk was born on March 22, 1985, in Farmington Hills, one of Detroit's northwestern suburbs, the son of an art teacher and a shoe-store owner whose shop was in nearby Birmingham. He grew up in Oakland County and graduated from North Farmington High School in 2003, then studied at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Ann Arbor, finishing in 2007. Television quickly found him: he starred in the short-lived Fox drama Lone Star and then became the eerily cheerful account man Bob Benson on AMC's Mad Men. Leading roles followed in the CBS comedy The Crazy Ones opposite Robin Williams, the thriller series Zoo and Tell Me a Story, and HBO's Watchmen, along with films such as You Again and The Stanford Prison Experiment.
