The Detroit story
Edwards had already played for four NBA teams over a decade-long career when the Pistons acquired him from Phoenix in February 1988, adding a steady scoring center to a roster built around defense and physical play. He became a key reserve on the 1989 championship team and moved into the starting lineup for most of the 1990 title run, giving the "Bad Boys" Pistons an offensive option in the post that complemented Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars on the perimeter. Though he never made an All-Star team in his 19-season career, Edwards was valued for his reliable mid-range jumper and professionalism, and he played four seasons in Detroit before moving on. He later added a third championship ring with the Chicago Bulls in 1996, becoming one of a small group of players to win titles with multiple franchises.
