The Detroit story
Drafted 121st overall by Detroit in 2008, Nyquist spent several seasons developing with the Grand Rapids Griffins before making his NHL debut with the Red Wings in November 2011. He broke out in the lockout-shortened 2012–13 season and became a consistent scoring threat, leading the team with 28 goals and 20 assists in 2013–14 while helping the club post one of the fastest starts in franchise history that season. He represented Sweden at the 2014 Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal, and remained a Red Wings regular into the late 2010s, playing at both Joe Louis Arena and its downtown successor, Little Caesars Arena, before moving on in a 2019 trade.
