Elizabeth Reaser was born in 1975 in Bloomfield Hills, one of the affluent Oakland County suburbs north of Detroit, and grew up in the area. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic school in Bloomfield Hills, and later Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, graduating in 1993. She went on to study acting at the Juilliard School in New York and worked in theater before breaking through on screen. Television audiences know her from an Emmy-nominated arc as the amnesiac Rebecca Pope on Grey's Anatomy and from The Good Wife, Mad Men and The Haunting of Hill House; film audiences know her as Esme Cullen, the vampire family's matriarch in the Twilight Saga. Her Detroit story is a suburban one: Oakland County schools, then an early departure for the East Coast stage.
