The Detroit story
Weight grew up around Warren and St. Clair Shores, Michigan, playing youth hockey for the Detroit Compuware club and graduating from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods in 1989. His NHL career took him far from Michigan: nineteen seasons, mostly as a playmaking center for the Edmonton Oilers, and a Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes. A four-time All-Star, he later coached and worked in the front office of the New York Islanders before joining the San Jose Sharks as a hockey operations adviser. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
