The Detroit story
By the time Rose signed with Detroit in July 2019, he was more than a decade removed from being the youngest MVP in NBA history with the Chicago Bulls, his career repeatedly interrupted by knee and ankle injuries. Coming off the bench for the Pistons, he found a second wind: he set a franchise record by scoring 20 or more points in seven straight games as a reserve, part of a career-high 14-game streak at that scoring level, and was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult 20–46 season hampered by Blake Griffin's injuries. His efficient, aggressive play as Detroit's sixth man reminded fans of his MVP peak and extended his career for several more seasons elsewhere. He played parts of two seasons with the Pistons before being traded to New York in 2021.
