The Detroit story
In the early 1990s Dan Miller led Goober & the Peas, a Detroit cowpunk band that dressed in honky-tonk suits and counted a young Jack White as its drummer. After it broke up, Miller, White, Damian Lang and Miller's wife Tracee Mae formed the garage band Two-Star Tabernacle, which released one single with Andre Williams before splitting in 1999; White went on to the White Stripes and Lang to the Detroit Cobras. The Millers then founded Blanche, whose mix of early country, folk blues and Southern Gothic mood, plus vintage clothing, set it apart in the garage scene. Blanche released If We Can't Trust the Doctors (2004) and Little Amber Bottles (2007), toured with the White Stripes and Loretta Lynn and played festivals across Europe. In 2005 Miller made his film debut as Johnny Cash's guitarist Luther Perkins in Walk the Line.
