The Detroit story
Cynthia Watros was born in Lake Orion, a lake town in northern Oakland County, and began her studies close to home at Macomb Community College in Clinton Township. She then moved east to Boston University, where she earned a bachelor of fine arts in theater through its Professional Actors Training Program. Her screen career took off in daytime television: in 1994 she joined Guiding Light as Annie Dutton, a role that brought her the 1998 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress. In prime time she played Kellie on The Drew Carey Show and Libby Smith, the clinical psychologist among the plane-crash survivors on ABC's Lost. Since 2019 she has played Nina Reeves on General Hospital, earning further Daytime Emmy nominations.
