The Detroit story
Scott had already won a silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles at the 1948 London Olympics and starred in college football at Arkansas before turning pro. After a season with the Philadelphia Eagles, he joined the Detroit Lions, where he played from 1950 to 1952 and was part of the Lions' 1952 NFL championship team, the first of three titles the franchise won in the 1950s. His five-season NFL career combined two rare achievements: an Olympic medal and an NFL championship ring.
