The Detroit story
Drafted by Detroit in 1991, Osgood became the Red Wings' starting goaltender in the late 1990s and backstopped or shared the net for four Stanley Cup championships between 1997 and 2008, missing only the 2002 title while with another club. Fans at Joe Louis Arena chanted 'Ozzy' after his big saves. Left unprotected after Detroit acquired Dominik Hašek in 2001, he was claimed by the Islanders, but returned to Detroit in 2005 and shared goaltending duties with Hašek again. In the 2008 playoffs he posted back-to-back shutouts in the Stanley Cup Final and led the Red Wings past Pittsburgh for his third championship, this time as the primary starter. He retired with 401 regular-season wins, and later became a Red Wings broadcaster.
