The Detroit story
Detroit selected Ford third overall in the 2003 WNBA draft, and she made an immediate impact, becoming the first player in league history to win the Rookie of the Year award and a championship in the same season, as the Shock captured its first title that fall. Playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills, she developed into one of the league's best rebounders, twice leading the WNBA in that category and earning four All-Star selections and an All-Star Game MVP award, while helping Detroit win two more championships, in 2006 and 2008. Her decade with the Shock made her one of the most decorated players in the franchise's history before the team relocated out of Michigan in 2010.
