The Detroit story
Chase Sui Wonders was born in Bloomfield Hills, north of Detroit, to a father of Chinese descent and a mother of European descent; fashion designer Anna Sui, herself from metro Detroit, is her aunt. She attended Cranbrook Schools, the art-and-architecture landmark campus in Bloomfield Hills, and while still a teenager she co-wrote and co-directed a film, A Trivial Exclusion (2009). She went on to Harvard University, where she studied film, wrote for The Harvard Lampoon and graduated magna cum laude. Her screen career took off with HBO Max's Generation (2021) and the horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), followed by the lead in Apple TV+'s City on Fire (2023). As the young studio executive Quinn Hackett in Seth Rogen's comedy series The Studio (2025), she shared the 2026 Actor Awards prize for outstanding comedy ensemble.
