The Detroit story
Priscilla "CeCe" Winans was born in Detroit, the eighth of ten children of David and Delores Winans, the parents of the city's famous gospel family. Her parents did not allow secular music at home, so in the Motown city her training came from church: at eight she sang her first solo, "Fill My Cup, Lord," in the family's congregation. While still in elementary school she sang with her brothers Daniel, Michael and BeBe in a talent show at Mumford High School, which she later attended and which also produced the Clark Sisters and Fred Hammond. In the early 1980s she and BeBe joined the PTL television ministry's singers, launching the duo BeBe & CeCe Winans, whose albums crossed over to R&B radio. Her solo career made her the best-selling and most awarded female gospel artist, and she has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Nashville's Music City Walk of Fame.
