The Detroit story
Keselowski was born in Rochester Hills, in Oakland County, into a family steeped in stock car racing, and grew up around Michigan's short tracks before turning professional. He won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2012, becoming only the third driver after Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon to win the title within his first three full seasons, and he remains one of just a handful of drivers to have won championships in two of NASCAR's national series. Though his racing career and businesses are based in North Carolina, he has repeatedly said that a win at Michigan International Speedway, near his childhood home, would mean more to him personally than a Daytona 500 victory, and he was honored in Troy, Michigan, with the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame's Excellence in Sports Award in 2013.
