The Detroit story
Marjanović had already been an MVP and champion in Serbia and the Adriatic League when he signed his first NBA contract with San Antonio at age 27. Detroit lured him away with a three-year, $21 million offer sheet in July 2016 that the Spurs declined to match. Coming off the bench for the Pistons, his towering size and gentle, good-humored public persona made him a crowd favorite; on April 7, 2017, he set a career high with 27 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Houston. After two seasons in Detroit he moved on to the Clippers and several more NBA teams before ending his career overseas.
