The Detroit story
Marcellus Register was born in Detroit and grew up playing basketball and football and the trumpet. In 2010 he joined Team Eastside, the crew he formed with fellow east-side rapper Peezy, which became one of the city's most influential street-rap collectives of the decade. His mixtape MIA Season (2015) began to build his name, followed by Ghetto Wave (2017) and MIA Season 2 (2019), whose track “Move to LA” spread on TikTok. His calm, conversational delivery, a counterpoint to the frantic energy of many Detroit peers, became a template for the scene. In 2021 his EP Unfuckwitable entered the Billboard 200 and he released “It Ain't My Fault” with Big Sean. His debut album Face (2022), featuring Pusha T, G Herbo, Wiz Khalifa, Yung Lean and 42 Dugg, reached No. 31 on the Billboard 200, and he was named to the 2022 XXL Freshman Class alongside Michigan's BabyTron.
