The Detroit story
Afflalo came to Detroit as a first-round pick out of UCLA in 2007, joining a Pistons roster that was still a perennial Eastern Conference contender. He spent two seasons as a rotation guard at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and during his second year he represented the team in the Shooting Stars event at NBA All-Star Weekend, teaming with Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer and WNBA guard Katie Smith to win the competition for Detroit. The Pistons traded him to Denver in 2009 as part of a deal that brought back a draft pick, and he went on to a long NBA career built mostly around three-point shooting, but his rookie seasons in Detroit were where his career began.
