The Detroit story
Keenan-Bolger grew up in Detroit, the younger brother of Tony winner Celia Keenan-Bolger, and was already on Broadway as a child, playing Chip in Beauty and the Beast in the 1990s and alternating as Jojo in the original cast of Seussical in 2000. He graduated from Detroit's Renaissance High School and earned a BFA in musical theatre from the University of Michigan in 2007. As an adult he played Robertson Ay in Mary Poppins, created the role of Crutchie, the disabled newsboy, in Disney's Newsies (2012) and originated Jesse Tuck in Tuck Everlasting (2016). With Kate Wetherhead he co-created the web series Submissions Only, a comedy about New York auditions, which he also directs and edits.
