The Detroit story
The Pistons made Houston the 11th overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft out of Tennessee, and he spent his first three NBA seasons in Detroit, averaging 8.5 points per game as a rookie and steadily growing into one of the league's more reliable outside shooters. Detroit traded him to New York in 1996, where he became a two-time All-Star, reached the 1999 NBA Finals and won Olympic gold with the U.S. team in 2000, but his NBA career began with the Pistons.
