The Detroit story
Woodson was born in Detroit and raised in Town Creek, Alabama. A singer, keyboardist and drummer, he first recorded with the Temptations in 1983, filling in for Dennis Edwards on "Stop the World Right Here (I Wanna Get Off)", and became their lead singer that year. He fronted the group from 1983 to 1987 and again from 1988 to 1996, singing lead on their 1984 hit "Treat Her Like a Lady", and he also worked with Aretha Franklin and Jean Carn. He sang on the 1987 single "We're Back" with the Former Ladies of the Supremes. Throat cancer interrupted his career during his Temptations years, and he died of leukemia in Los Angeles in 2010.
