The Detroit story
Grant was born in 1981 in West Bloomfield Township in Oakland County, the son of a lawyer and a teacher, and grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. In high school he was a competitive springboard diver, named an All-American in 1999. He studied at Harvard and then returned to Michigan for graduate work, earning his master's and doctorate in organizational psychology at the University of Michigan. At the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania he became one of its youngest tenured professors. His books, among them Give and Take (2013), Originals (2016), Option B (2017, with Sheryl Sandberg), Think Again (2021) and Hidden Potential (2023), became best-sellers, and he hosts the podcast WorkLife. In 2017 he co-founded Give and Take, Inc. with University of Michigan professor Wayne Baker and Cheryl Baker.
