Detroit's queer nightlife has stretched from the Cass Corridor to Royal Oak for decades. Friday night starts in Midtown and the Cass Corridor with a drag bus, Saturday brings Royal Oak and a West Side drag cabaret, and Sunday wraps with bingo brunch and a tea dance at legendary Menjo's. Most bars are 18+ or 21+, so bring a photo ID.

Friday night: Midtown and the Cass Corridor

  1. 17:30

    Common Pub Detroit

    Midtown (Wayne State campus)

Early dinner on Wayne State's campus: Common Pub isn't an LGBTQ+-only bar, but it's one of Midtown's main queer-friendly hangouts, with a patio. During RuPaul's Drag Race season it hosts Friday watch parties with local queens lip-syncing live (doors at 7, show at 8), so in season you might just stay.

About 7 minutes by car south to Peterboro Street in the Cass Corridor.

  2. 20:00

    Michigan Drag Bus – Detroit

    Midtown / Cass Corridor

A drag show on a rolling party bus, with lip-sync battles and games: it leaves from Detroit Shipping Company on Fridays at 6 and 8 p.m. and runs about two hours. Book ahead and check the booking calendar for upcoming dates.

A 5-minute walk to Cass Avenue.

  3. 22:15

    Temple Bar

Cass Corridor / Midtown (next to the Masonic Temple, near Little Caesars Arena)

A family-run gay bar since 1927, right next to the Masonic Temple: a dive on weeknights, a disco, house and techno club on weekends, with an elevated DJ booth and a disco ball. Part of the facade collapsed in 2024; a community fundraiser helped restore it, and the bar reopened on December 17, 2024. 21+ only.

Saturday: Royal Oak and the West Side

  1. 12:00

    Sidetrack Bookshop

    Royal Oak

A proudly LGBTQ-owned independent bookstore in downtown Royal Oak with a big queer section; it hosts book clubs, open mics and Drag Queen Story Hour. Check its calendar in case something's on that day.

A 5-minute walk down Washington Avenue to 6th Street.

  2. 13:30

    Pronto! Lounge & Showbar

    Royal Oak

Royal Oak's queer nightlife anchor since 1991: a video bar, drag showbar and diner with one of the biggest patios in town. On Saturdays the diner runs 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., so have lunch here; the weekly lineup includes karaoke, game nights and a drag open stage.

About 30 minutes by car southwest to West Warren Avenue on Detroit's West Side.

  3. 20:00

    Gigi's

    Warrendale (West Side)

Detroit's oldest gay-owned gay bar, a West Side institution since 1973: a drag cabaret in the basement, a dance floor upstairs, and a Saturday revue directed by Nickki Stevens since the 1990s. It's also home to the Miss Gigi's pageant, reaching its 53rd edition in October 2026. Reserve a seat for the Saturday cabaret, it's 18+, and bring some cash.

Sunday: bingo and a tea dance

  1. 11:00

    Five15

    Royal Oak

Bingo brunch at the self-styled original home of Drag Queen Bingo in Metro Detroit: since 2007 Five15 has been a retro coffee shop by day and a drag cabaret by night, and in 2020 its owners also took over neighboring Pronto!. Bingo Brunch is Sundays at 11 a.m., with tickets on the official events page.

About 15 minutes by car south into Detroit, next to Palmer Park.

  2. 18:00

    Menjo's Complex

    Palmer Park

Close with a tea dance at Detroit's longest-running gay dance club: Menjo's has been spinning near Palmer Park since December 1974, a teenage Madonna danced here, and the original 1970s disco ball still hangs over the floor. The Sunday tea dance runs 6 to 9 p.m.; bring photo ID.
