Pamela Wise & Naima Shambourger: Celebrating Women in Jazz

Pamela Wise started composing music and playing piano by ear as a kid, encouraged by her bassist father. After years in R&B, she focused on jazz, which she brought to life on stage at the Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor on March 13. The band included Naima Shambourger singing, Laura Simone on bass, Gayelynn McKinney on drums, Kevin Jones on percussion, and Ingrid Racine on trumpet. Pamela is a Kresge Fellow recognized for her contributions as a pianist, composer, and teacher in Detroit’s music scene. This performance showcased her musicianship alongside strong female jazz voices.
