Doolin’ live at The Ark in Ann Arbor

After three years of extensive touring in the U.S. and Canada, followed by an equal hiatus from live shows, Doolin’ returned with their new album, CIRCUS BOY. Partially recorded during their 2019 U.S. tour in Chicago, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh, the album was finalized at the famous Studio Ferber in Paris under the guidance of producers Olivier Lude and Patrice Renson. Their sound on this record is more adventurous, featuring original compositions enhanced by piano, drums, and brass alongside traditional Irish instruments.

Wilfried Besse’s vocals were backed by the driving rhythm section of percussionist Josselin Fournel, bassist Sébastien Saunié, and guitarist Nicolas Besse. The Irish tradition came through clearly with Jacob Fournel on whistles, Josselin Fournel on bodhran, and Wilfried Besse on accordion. The album also featured three top European fiddlers—Niahm Gallagher, Niall Murphy, and founding member Guilhem Cavaillé. Their concert at The Ark brought this rich, authentic yet fresh sound to Ann Arbor. Tickets were $25, available at the venue or in advance.
