Monster Fest 2026: synth punk, The Frighteners and a horror book signing at Tibbits

Tibbits Opera House is celebrating an early Halloween. The evening opens with a live set from Kalamazoo-based minimalist synth punk band Spatter Pattern. Half an hour later comes Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson's 1996 film The Frighteners, starring Michael J. Fox as Frank Bannister, who loses his wife in a car accident, discovers he can talk to the dead and uses it to con people, until a demonic spirit shows up. It's rated R for terror and moderate violence/gore.

In the Tibbits Art Gallery, Michigan horror author and Delta College professor J.C. Vande Zande signs books, and all three books of his Orphan Island Trilogy are for sale. Tickets are $10 including fees, and doors open an hour before showtime. Concessions include alcoholic drinks, and earplugs are $1. Tibbits is at 14 South Hanchett Street in Coldwater.
