Horror-leaning escape rooms in the historic MODART Building downtown, from the crew behind Saginaw's biggest haunted attraction. One room puts a live actor in with you; the newest is a no-scare military mission.

Closed escape rooms from Detroit and Michigan, with everything we know about them: address, old phone number, rooms, years. They’re part of the city’s story too.
Detroit’s first known escape game opened in late 2014 in the Penobscot Building downtown: Trapped in a Room with a Zombie locked you in with, well, a zombie, and by February 2015 even The New York Times had written about it. By the summer of 2016 you could pick from about 19 games run by eight companies, and then the suburban wave arrived. Most of that first generation closed between 2018 and 2022, many around the pandemic, but their records stay here.

Live-actor horror rooms in Flat Rock, Downriver: Escape The Post scared groups from 2017 to 2025 and hosted ghost-hunting events, too. It closed in spring 2025.

A short-lived escape room in Burton, just outside Grand Blanc, with one room: Bone Appétit, where you had an hour to get out of a serial killer's basement.

One of Detroit's earliest escape games, from February 2015 in the downtown Penobscot Building: you were locked in for an hour with a chained actor-zombie whose chain grew every five minutes.
06 / First time?
Most places are booking-only, and weekend evenings fill up fast. The booking calendar shows which room is free when.
Some places may team you up with strangers unless you book the whole room. If you only want your own crew, look for a private booking.
Most places run a short briefing first and ask you to sign a waiver. Arrive late and it usually comes out of your game time.
The game master is watching and will give you a hint when you’re stuck. It doesn’t make the win smaller, just the mood better.
Age limits differ by venue and by room. We list what each venue publishes, but double-check on their own site before you go.
